What Laser Treatment Can Do for Sun-Damaged Skin
Living in Southern California is a dream. There’s plenty of opportunity for work and fun-filled events happening all year round. And of course, the sun-drenched days with no rain are what attract people here from all walks of life.
There’s nothing like beach days. Although the sun boosts your mood and bronzes your skin, spending just 10 minutes outside can cause sun damage.
Age spots. Wrinkles. Sagging skin. For those who wish to reverse sun damage like this, there’s the Halo™ Laser. Shantique Med Spa, located in Torrance, California, is here to tell you everything you need to get beautiful skin again.
How the sun damages your skin
The sun is beautiful but damaging – 90% of visible skin damage is caused by the sun. But how exactly?
The sun’s rays dry out lubricating oils found in your skin, causing dryness and changes in texture. UV exposure can also burn your skin, altering the skin’s structure and causing wrinkles and age spots over time.
Some people aren’t bothered by changes like these, but others wish to improve them to have dewy, youthful skin.
Meet the only hybrid fractional laser
Many laser technologies are on the market, but the Halo laser is the first and only of its kind. Targeting even the most severe sun damage, the Halo laser improves pesky skin concerns like:
- Sunspots
- Skin pigmentation
- Wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Laxity
- Scars
Though most lasers use only one kind of wavelength, Halo uses two kinds – ablative and non-ablative.
Ablative laser wavelength whisks away the outermost layer of your skin and gently heats the underlayer of your skin. This supercharges collagen production to promote smoother and tighter skin. Ablative lasers are more invasive than non-ablative lasers but provide more dramatic results.
Non-ablative lasers resurface the skin, improving skin texture and pigment without damaging your skin. You can expect improved acne scars, fine lines, melasma, and much more.
What to expect during treatment
The Halo laser is an intelligent device. Using precise skin mapping and an adjustable beam, Shahinaz Soliman, MD targets even the smallest areas of skin. When you come in for your appointment, we do all the heavy lifting while you relax. Here’s what to expect.
Dr. Soliman first explains the treatment and answers any questions you may have. She applies a numbing cream to your face and lets it sit for about 45 minutes. She’ll then give you a protective pair of eyeglasses and will then apply a protective gel. before using the Halo device to measure your skin depth and facial dimensions.
Next, Dr. Soliman uses the handheld device to measure your skin depth and facial dimensions. Gliding the device over your face in sections, going from cheek-to-cheek, forehead, and chin, Dr. Soliman heals your skin from the inside out.
Most patients don’t find treatment to be painful, but slightly uncomfortable and can be described as quick zaps of heat. The laser treatment only takes about 15 minutes, so it’s over and done before you know it. Lastly, Dr. Soliman removes the gel and cream from your face before explaining the after care.
Flawless, picture-ready skin
Experience flawless, picture-ready skin after two to three Halo treatments. However, it’s important to understand that the results are not instant – most patients require three to seven days of downtime where redness, swelling, and pigmentation changes occur.
After the side effects reside, you’ll notice smoother and brighter skin that continues to improve over the next month. Most patients experience the peak of their results around two to three months with dewy, youthful, and touchable skin.
