Treatments That Banish Sun Damage Quickly
Your teen years were spent with good skin and bad decisions. You probably spent some beach days in your youth applying oil to attract the sun’s rays and ignoring SPF. Did you experience bad sunburns more than you’d like to admit?
Sunburn is just one of the ways we experience sun damage, but you don’t have to get burned to experience skin changes from the sun. Roughly 90% of age-related skin concerns – like wrinkles, age spots, and laxity – are caused by the sun.
Though you can't go back in time to apply SPF, treatments like microneedling and BroadBandLight™ can erase skin imperfections. Shantique Med Spa, located in Torrance, California, prides itself on making your skin flawless at any age.
The reality of aging skin
You’ve probably noticed many changes in your skin as you’ve gotten older. Your complexion reveals your age, past, and sunscreen habits.
Although sun damage is more common in fair-skinned individuals, nearly everyone has some degree of damage. Some of the most common signs of sun damage include:
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Sagging skin
- Rough, uneven texture
- Pigmentation
If your skin is dull and lacking the life it once had, we’re here to help.
Treatments that banish sun damage
California's year-round sunshine boosts your mood but can affect your skin. Don't worry; we offer three treatments to combat sun damage and brighten your complexion:
-
Chemical peels
Chemical peels have a long history, dating back to the 19th century. Today, they’re much more advanced but have the same purpose – rejuvenating your skin.
When you come in for treatment, Shahinaz Soliman starts by cleansing your skin to remove oils and makeup and applying an acid-based solution to your face and neck. Peels vary in strength, from mild to deep and can be customized to address your specific skin concerns.
She leaves the peel on your skin for up to an hour, and during this time, you might experience a slight tingling sensation. Lastly, she neutralizes the peel before removing it from your skin.
The real magic comes in the days following your treatment, as your skin peels, revealing a fresh, new layer. Chemical peels reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while providing hydration to your skin.
-
Microneedling
Microneedling may sound intimidating, but we bet you’ll find it much more enjoyable than the needles used in doctor’s offices. The treatment is a must-have for every beauty guru because it provides natural yet radiant results.
As the name suggests, microneedling involves applying tiny microscopic needles (.25-5 millimeters) to your skin’s surface. Micro-injuries trigger your body's natural healing process, increasing collagen and elastin production. Over the next weeks following treatment, you’ll notice an improvement in skin texture, reduction in pore size, and tighter skin.
-
BroadBand Light
BroadBand Light (BBL) by Sciton uses innovative light energy to change the nature of your skin. Unlike a laser, which is one beam of light, Broadband Light describes a wavelength of light in different directions – similar to a camera flash.
Your BBL treatment starts with Dr. Soliman cleaning your skin and applying a cool gel. She adjusts the handpiece with targeted settings based on the skin concerns you wish to improve. Next, she glides the handpiece over your skin where it emits light energy into your skin. Lastly, she removes the cooling gel and applies moisturizer and SPF.
Your skin may be red and swollen following treatment, but this is completely normal and is a sign that treatment is working. BBL is a fantastic treatment option to smooth wrinkles while improving pigmentation like freckles and age spots.
